Embraer has announced that it is adding two longer-range business jets to its mid-sized Legacy line. The new airplanes will feature fly-by-wire flight controls that will be programmed to reduce turbulence felt and will have new revamped cabins.

The new airplanes will be equipped with Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion avionics suites with vertical weather displays and predictive wind shear capability.

The Praetor 500 is a derivative of the existing Embraer Legacy 450 but will be equipped with an extra fuel tank. The new variant will be powered by twin Honeywell HTF 7500E turbofans which produce 6,540 lbs of thrust each. The Praetor 500 is capable of a high speed cruise of 462 knots and can fly a maximum range of 3,250 nm.

The Praetor 600 will have similar features to the Praetor 500. The 600 will also feature the HTF 7500E powerplants but with a rating of 7,500 lbs or thrust each. The 600 will have a maximum range of 3,900 nm.

Though there are strong similarities to the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 Embraer says it will continue building the existing airplanes.

The new airplane subassemblies will be built at Embraer’s Brazilian facilities with final assembly taking place at Embraer’s Melbourne, Florida manufacturing plant. Embraer plans to expand existing facilities to accommodate new aircraft production.

The Praetor 500 and 600 are slotted in to similar capacity, performance, and size to the Cessna Latitude, Bombardier Challenger 350, and Gulfstream G280. Pilot compensation and working environments are set in business aviation as benchmarks of like aircraft. The new Embraer airplanes will have pilot positions that are fairly equivalent to the existing competition.
